Since then Cassandra has written more novels than she can count and put just as many in the circular bin. Her personal goal with her writing is to show the reader the character's stories through their dialogue and actions instead of just telling the reader what is happening. In 2013 she branched out by using her artistic illustrating talents to publish her first Children's novel, The Adventures of Skippy Von Flippy: Tales of Friendship (Skippy Tales, #1). Excerpt:
When he came off the plane he was wearing aviators, a black button-up, dark wash jeans and those Converse shoes that I hated on anyone but him. He lifted his sunglasses and broke into a smile as I ran into his arms. He dropped his bag and spun me around as soon as I was in his arms.
"How did you know?" he asked as he set me on the ground, his hands tangled in my hair.
"You told me what flight you were on."
He shook his head and held my chin in his hand. "I've always wanted to have someone to wait for me—to spin them around and then do this."
He pulled my chin up and tilted it until our lips touched—soft at first and then the reminder that we hadn't kissed in two months came over us. The only thing that could pull us apart was the whistle that echoed through the terminal and then the incessant flash of cameras.
"Crap," Evan hissed, his forehead pressed to mine with his hands on either side of my face so they couldn't get a good picture of me. "You don't want them to know who you are yet, do you?"
I shook my head but said with my voice shaking, "I knew the risk."
He swallowed and then smiled. "Tilt your head down so that your hair covers your face from view."
I did what he said and then felt his hands slip the glasses over my eyes. As I looked up his cocky half-smile made me laugh.
"They look a hell of a lot hotter on you," he teased, throwing his duffel bag over his shoulder and wrapping his arm around my waist so that his fingers were in the front pocket of my jeans.
"I don't think that's possible," I replied, breathless from the feel of his touch as my t-shirt rose, exposing the flesh of my hip to his warmth.
"It’s very possible with you," he whispered into my ear as we made our way past the flashing cameras. "I can't wait to see the tabloids on this one."
"It would be much better if we did something dangerous, like locked ourselves in a public restroom."
He looked down at me through his eyebrows. "Really? That's not all that clean."
"I haven't seen you in two months," I said, turning and stopping in front of him. "I've thought about you every single day. Do you know what that does to a girl? Especially when pictures of you half-naked are strewn across the internet."
"I see you found those." His voice was edged with amusement, but his face was red in embarrassment.
I pulled on the collar of his shirt before leaning up on my toes and whispering into his ear, "I need some real ones."
"What do you need pictures of when I'm here?" he answered, his breath hot on my chin, voice seductive.
"I need you to burn the images into my mind then," I said before gently biting his ear.
His free hand drifted down the small of my back to my rear pocket. "I thought I already had."
"Mhmm...I need more."
"I have to admit I kind of enjoy this." He smirked down at me. "But teasing me like this is just cruel."
"Does the rental car have blacked out windows?" I asked over my shoulder as I turned.
I watched his Evan's Adam’s apple rise and fall. "I sure hope so."

Forty Days Book Tour

Forty Days (Neima's Ark, #1)

The entire village knows Neima’s grandfather is a madman. For years the old man has prophesied that a great flood is coming, a flood disastrous enough to blot out the entire earth. He’s even built an enormous ark that he claims will allow his family to survive the deluge. But no one believes the ravings of a lunatic…

…until the rain starts. And doesn’t stop. Soon sixteen-year-old Neima finds her entire world transformed, her life and those of the people she loves in peril. Trapped on the ark with her grandfather Noah, the rest of her family, and a noisy, filthy, and hungry assortment of wild animals, will Neima find a way to survive?

With lions, tigers, and bears oh my, elephants and flamingos too, along with rivalries and betrayals, a mysterious stowaway, and perhaps even an unexpected romance, FORTY DAYS is not your grandfather’s Noah’s Ark story.

FORTY DAYS is approximately 45000 words, the length of a shorter novel, and is the first installment in a two-part epic story. It does contain a cliffhanger ending.
Readers looking for a traditional, religiously oriented version of the Noah’s Ark story should be warned that FORTY DAYS may not appeal to them. The novel will, however, appeal to lovers of apocalyptic fiction, historical fiction, and romance, as well as anyone who’s ever dreamed of having a baby elephant as a pet.

To say that this book was incredible would be an understatement. I completely and irrevocably fell in love with this novel! I was completely taken aback by how much I enjoyed reading this story. I was a bit wary of reading it at first because of the religious background, and the fact that I don't normally enjoy religious stories, but I was pleasantly surprised. This book surpassed my expectations and left me with a much needed break from exams. It was a simple retelling of the Noah's Ark story, but it added cute romance that I enjoyed reading. It was a pleasant story that I would recommend to anyone looking for a light read.

Excerpt:

Gillian Boone watched the funeral from the safety of an ancient oak tree. As somber black forms surrounded the grave, drizzle dampened the headstones. She wanted to get in close, to check the body before they lowered it forever, to know whether or not what she had seen was real or just a dream, but she knew she wasn't welcome. Julia Gomez, the most popular girl in school, had died, and no friends of hers would dare let the likes of Gillian attend the funeral.
But the dream haunted her. It had happened a week ago. She woke — she thought she had woken — but was not in her bed. Or her room. Or her house. Confused, she tried to rise, but her body wouldn't respond. Then without her command, she somehow walked into a bathroom — every motion felt wrong, off-balance, out of proportion with where her body should be. In the mirror, she saw the face of Julia Gomez. That's when Gillian knew she was dreaming. And that's when she heard the breathing creature — a sickening sound like air shoved through a tube of mucus.

When Life Falls to Pieces, Answers Lie in the Space Between

After a month-long dance tour through Italy, 20-year-old Leni Drago returns to

This book was incredible, it completely blew me away! I fell in love with the main character Jeric almost instantaneously with his dashing good looks and his no care attitude. I loved the plot and storyline and I found myself falling in love with the characters and the world they lived in. This is definitely a new adult novel though, because there are some scenes that are quite "scandalicious" if you know what I mean. I don't want to reveal anything without giving away any spoilers, so I  will just have to gush about how incredible this book was! Seriously, go buy it as soon as it comes out! If you love romance with a hint of new adult and paranormal, then you are in for a surprise mix of talented writing. Go for it!

Between the Lines: (Mostly) Unknown Facts About Leni From The Space Between

Along The Space Between release tour, we’re sharing behind-the-scenes tidbits about the book, the characters and more. Things that fall “between the lines” of the story’s prose. So here’s Leni, one of the main characters, sharing a few (mostly) unknown facts about herself. Take it away, Leni!

Leni: Thank you! This is kind of weird to be talking about myself like this, but here goes.

  1. I’m an only child. Like most only children, I sometimes wished I had brothers or sisters to share life with. On the other hand, it’s probably good that no one else had to deal with my mama.
  2. I guess I have my own style—a little Bohemian, a little country and a little trendy all rolled into one. My favorite outfit is a knee-length lacey smock or a long, flowy tie-dyed skirt with my much loved cowboy boots.
  3. I love bracelets and rings! Uncle Theo teases me about all of them, but I like the jangle of the bracelets and the way the light hits the rings when I dance around the house.
  4. When I was in high school, I was asked to captain the new dance squad and choreograph their routine, but when Mama found out, she made me quit because it would take away from my “real” dancing.
  5. Before snot hit the fan, I’d been getting ready to attend Emory University, my daddy’s alma mater. I was a little nervous, especially since it had been two years since I’d graduated high school, but I was also ready to get on with life. I thought studying business would be good for the dance studio I wanted to open, but after three years of taking care of Uncle Theo, I considered going into the medical field. Now I don’t know what will happen.
  6. I’ve never had a pet until Ghost comes along. I had always wanted a dog when I was little, but was always too busy to take care of one. Uncle Theo and I kept talking about getting a dog, but every time we made plans to visit the shelter, something came up.
  7. Favorites:
The colors gold and blue
My camper at the lake
My faded red cowboy boots
Rings and bracelets
Sitting in the window seat in my room and reading
French fries and milkshakes
Dancing (duh)
I’ve recently become fascinated with piercings and tattoos, but not on myself. *naughty grin*

Thank you, Leni! Of course, this barely scratches the surface of all there is to know about Leni. Get to know the real Leni in The Space Between, the first part of The Book of Phoenix.

Excerpt:

LENI – The overhead lights fell dark for the last time as I opened the dressing room door. The back exit stood open at the end of the hall, allowing in enough light from the streetlamp outside to show my way. I inhaled slowly, cherishing the musty smell of an old theater mixed with the odor of dancers’ sweat and the fragrance of white roses. I silently said my goodbyes as my feet carried me outside.
“Thank you, Uncle Theo,” I whispered as I left the theater for the last time. Only because of him did I even have this opportunity. I couldn’t wait to tell him all about it.
A large, muscular body flew at me, swept me into his arms and twirled me around as though we were still on stage. Laughter bubbled out of my chest.
“You ready to celebrate, cara mia?” Alberto asked as he set me down.
“Celebrate that you’re finally getting rid of me?” I teased.
He clapped his hand over his heart, and his face fell into an exaggerated expression of pain. “Oh, Leni, you do not know how I will miss you and your mane.”
He swatted playfully at the bottom of my curls. He had no idea how I would miss the way he said my name, drawing out both syllables, “laaaay-kneee,” like only an Italian could do.
“But you won’t miss my heels on your toes or my arm in your face?” I said in mock disbelief.
He took my hand and danced me down the cobbled street toward the plaza at the center of town. “You are a stunning dancer, cara mia. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” He spun me under his arm, my duffle bag banging me in the butt the whole time. “Of course, you have become much better since becoming my partner. But everyone does.”
He winked at me before dropping me into a dip. My bag slid off my shoulder and a hand darted beneath me to catch it. Alberto swung me up and around so that I came face-to-face with the most unbelievably stunning vision I’d seen my whole time in Italy. Which was saying a lot. His eyes—blue, I thought, though the light from the corner post wasn’t enough to be sure—enraptured me. He held my bag out with a small smile that hinted at dimples.
Grazie,” I said breathlessly as I wrapped my hand around the strap of my bag. He gave me a nod almost deep enough to be a bow, his shaggy blond hair falling in his face. Then, without a word, he turned and walked away. My mouth fell open. “How rude.”
“Must be American,” Alberto said. I punched him in the arm.
“Who goes out of their way to catch a falling object and then can’t even say ‘you’re welcome’?” I asked absent-mindedly as I stared after the retreating body that rivaled Alberto’s. No, scratch that. It totally beat out Alberto’s even on his best day.
“What an ass,” Alberto muttered.
“Rude, yes, but I don’t know if I’d go that far.”
“No, I mean what an ass that man has.” He let out a low whistle.
I laughed and admired the view as well. “I can agree with that.”
“He’s going to Alonzo’s. Lucky us.”
~ ~ ~
JERIC – I flipped to the picture I’d drawn a couple of weeks ago during my search in Italy. I’d woken from a dream, one I’d been having for years, and as I had previously, I’d felt the need to sketch the girl who had me waking with a painful boner. Now that I’d met her in real life, I couldn’t deny the girl in my sketches was Leni—curly hair, exotic green eyes, full lips and breasts, her skin … as if the absolute best features of both African and European blood had been blended together and given to her. The Leni I’d just met would probably never wear the leather bra, miniskirt, and knee-high boots I’d drawn her in, but damn if she wouldn’t look hot in them. The vision came to me clearly. Too clearly. I had to place the book over my lap to hide the full-blown wood pressing against my jeans.
I needed a distraction. I needed to get her out of my head. I bought several little airline bottles of rum and dumped them in my Coke, but they weren’t enough to blur the image of Leni’s face in my mind. When the smoking hot flight attendant ran her finger over my arm then dropped a napkin with a message on my tray (“Meet me upstairs?”), I couldn’t resist. I snuck up the spiral staircase to the empty upper level and found her in the bathroom wearing nothing but heels and thigh-high stockings, tendrils of bottle-bleached hair barely hiding her fake tits. Flight attendants like this had made me a lifetime member of the mile-high club—they wanted nothing more than something to make the transatlantic flight more interesting. My perfect kind of girl.
Unfortunately, my eyes only saw Leni’s body under my hands.
